Our History:
Founded in 2008 by school friends Michelle Martin and Frank McGowan, Bad Pony Media UK Productions began life as Bad Pony Productions — a small, grassroots partnership based in Glasgow. From the outset, our mission was to produce proudly Scottish, highly impactful short films, educational videos, and online video coverage that gave a voice to underrepresented communities.
Early projects focused on a mix of genres, with storylines showcasing topics such as mental health, disability, equality and LGBT families - empowering creatives with our own lived experience, offering real-world opportunities in the burgeoning Scottish film and TV industry.
What started as a passion project has grown into a multi-award-winning, BAFTA-celebrated production company with a thriving studio hub in the heart of Glasgow’s Merchant City, and several successfully completed pilots for television, and many short film awars under our belt. From these humble beginnings, our team has expanded, and our vision has developed to put Scotland on a global platform — now spanning broadcast television, feature film, online, podcast, interactive, and multi-platform.
In 2025, Bad Pony Media continues to produce a wide range of content including, but not limited to; series drama, factual entertainment, children’s programming, short form comedy, music video, and audio and video podcasts, which we'reproud to distribute across the likes of Spotify, Apple Podcasts, and other major streaming platforms, expanding our reach to global audiences who value powerful, authentic storytelling. We’ve also had the privilege of collaborate with major broadcasters and streaming platforms — including Netflix, Amazon Prime, BBC, HBO, and Sky — on both commissioned projects and new, original pilots, including a full series based on Ninety Eight Percent by M.J. Martin, which is currently in development.
Our catalogue is broad, and reflects a proud commitment to Scotland’s culture and heritage. Notable titles in production and pre-production at the moment includes:
-
Evening of the Dead — originally penned for George A. Romero’s Diary of the Dead DVD contest, now in development as a full length feature film with A list Hollywood talent and new faces from Scotland;
-

Our work has been recognised with numerous honours and accolades, including BAFTA Scotland: 60 Seconds of Fame, The Scottish Sun Variety Awards (for "Best New Scottish Artistic Company"), Scottish Enterprise’s Best Production Company, and Ernst & Young’s Future 100 Awards, which celebrates people, planet, and profit.
Our commercial work continues to engage, entertain and inspire, while via our not-for-profit Bad Pony Creative we continue to offer community-led media mentorship and support for emerging talent, backed by the Scottish Government and local authority in Glasgow. We also have a growing network of media partners, sponsors, brands and businesses we work with, as we aim to put Scotland on the map with our content, and create lasting social change through creative empowerment.
Our journey from a bedroom-based start-up to an international, award-winning production house is more than just a business story — it’s a tribute to collaboration, community, and the belief that great storytelling can come from the heart, as we aim to take Scotland global.
